Free & Reduced Price Lunch Program
|
Free & Reduced Price Lunch ProgramFranklin participates in the National School Lunch Program. As part of this program, we are pleased to offer Free or Reduced Price lunch to students who qualify. Reduced Price Lunch costs 40 cents at all schools.Students may qualify for Free or Reduced Price Lunch in two ways: 1) Applications for Free or Reduced Price lunch may be submitted to your child's school principal at any time during the school year. Forms are available for download by clicking on the link to your left, or you may obtain one from your child's school secretary. Applications for Free or Reduced Price Lunch will also be sent home to every student at the beginning of the school year. If you would like to apply for this program, please read the instructions and fill out the application completely. We are unable to process or approve incomplete applications. In order for us to determine if you qualify, it is very important that you list ALL household members on the application. Return the completed application to your child's school. We will do our best to notify you of a decision as quickly as possible. (If you are not interested in the Free or Reduced Price Lunch program, you do not need to return the application.) If you have been denied and your financial circumstances change, you are welcome to re-apply with updated information at any point during the school year. 2) If your family participates in TANF, SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) or certain other government programs, your children may automatically qualify for Free lunch. The Department of Education will send a list of students who are directly certified based on their participation in these programs to the Food Service Office when school starts. If your child(ren) are on this list, you will be notified by a letter from the Food Service Office in September. If you receive this letter and all of your children who are enrolled in the Franklin Schools are listed on the letter, you do NOT need to return the Free and Reduced Lunch application. If your children received Free or Reduced lunch during the previous school year, they may continue at their same benefit level through September 30 of the current school year. After that date, if we have not received and approved a new application, and your children were not on the direct certification list we received from the Dept of Education, your children will be expected to pay full price for their lunch. Participation in the Free and Reduced Price lunch program must be renewed every year, via a new application or Direct Certification from the state. Information regarding students who are on the Free or Reduced Price lunch list is strictly confidential. The Food Service Department does not intentionally identify these students in the lunch line. Students receiving Free or Reduced price lunch will enter their student ID number on a pinpad in the serving line in the same way as all other students. The food service department's computerized cash register system will recognize students who have been approved for the free or reduced lunch program in a confidential way. For a Free lunch student, purchasing a lunch will appear to be the same transaction as a student whose parents have pre-paid for his/her lunch. Reduced price students will be asked for 40 cents. Students who qualify for Free or Reduced price lunch are entitled to one complete student meal per day. A student meal includes an entree, fruit, and milk. Free or Reduced Price students who wish to purchase a second lunch or snacks may do so by paying with cash, or by using a pre-paid account. Parents of these students who wish to set up a pre-paid account should click on the "Pre-Pay Your Child's Lunch" link on the left. Free Lunch students who have pre-paid accounts will not be charged for their first lunch of the day. Their account will only be charged for additional food the child purchases. Reduced price students will be charged 40 cents for their first lunch of the day. If you have any additional questions regarding the Free or Reduced Price Lunch program, please call the Food Service Director, Clair Doyle, at 508-541-2100 x 3068. |
