Recreation
Name Description
Franklin Challenger League
Challenger League programs provide the opportunity for children with special needs to play and participate in group sports, such as basketball, soccer and baseball, within the town of Franklin. The goal is to provide a comfortable environment for the individuals, without the pressures and competition often associated with traditional sports teams. The emphasis is on fun, exercise and sportsmanship. The program also provides typical siblings, peers and parents, opportunities to share the joys of a positive sporting experience with the children with disabilities, who might never have considered playing otherwise. The program is available to boys and girls of any age, with all types of physical and developmental disabilities. There is no fee to participate. The programs are open to everyone. Please let us know you are interested in coming so we can provide you with the complimentary uniform. You are not obligated to show up each week. We do most of our communications through email, so sign up to be on our mailing list. Please contact Jon Ross at: jonathan.ross1@comcast.net to get on the mailing list. http://www.franklincl.com

Franklin YMCA

A community-wide task group consisting of special education professionals and parents of children with special needs is working with members of the Hockomock area YMCA to roll out a new "Integration Initiative". You have probably read about this initiative in our previous catalogue; however, we are now ready to provide special task training to our management staff and "front line" professionals in an effort to begin offering classes in designated program areas for the winter session. These areas will include: aquatics, gymnastics, pre-enrichment and sports. If you have any questions or would like more information about this initiative, please call North Attleboro Integration Coordinator Liz Costantini at 508-695-7001, x266, or Bernon Family Branch Integration Coordinator Jaime Estrella at 774-235-2722.

Families can take part in all programs offered at the YMCA. If there are particular needs that a parent wants to discuss w/ me, I schedule an appt. to meet the child, do an intake and discuss how integration will take place.

We offer a teen social/recreational program called the "The Real Deal" where a teen w/ special needs is paired w/ a peer.

Also, presently have an arts workshop for individuals w/ special needs going on in October at our Mansfield YMCA.
