Medication Policy

Franklin Public Schools medication policy, mandated by 71 M.G.L. 54B and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health 105 CMR, 210.001, is followed to ensure the health and safety of all students.*

*This includes prescription medications, over the counter medications (such as Motrin, Tylenol, eye drops, cold medicines, ointments, etc), and medicinal supplements.

-Medication can be administered at school with a written order by a health care provider and written parent permission. Required orders and consents must be renewed as necessary and at the beginning of each academic year.

-All medications must be in the original container, properly labeled and delivered to the school nurse by a responsible adult (parent/guardian or designee). The pharmacy will provide two bottles upon request for home and school use. No medication is to be sent in with a student.

-Medications may be retrieved by the parent at any time and the medication will be destroyed if it is not picked up at the end of the school year.
