WelcomeMay 14, 2012Good Morning, Happy Monday! Once again we have had another busy at DT. We spent last week saying "Thank you," to our teachers. The generosity shown by the DT community was amazing. From all the class gifts on Monday, the flowers on Wednesday, and then the luncheon on Friday our faculty definitely knows how much they are valued. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making it such a special week for all of us at DT. Last week I also heard a story last week that had an impact on me. Shaquille O'Neal earned his Doctorate from Barry University in Florida. This wasn't an honorary degree...he successfully defended his dissertation and earned it. During an interview he commented on graduating with this degree not being a finish line, but a mile marker in his life. The comment caused me to pause and think. What a great message for our students! With summer and so many transitions approaching it is important to remind ourselves and our children that education is a process. It's not something that ends once we complete a grade in school. There are opportunities all around us to learn. And, if we want our children to value learning the adults must also continue to model themselves as life long learners. In the spirit of life long learning, I do have to say that I am feeling inspired by the talents our DT students demonstrated last Friday night. From the dancing, the singing, the acrobats the skits, the basketball, the mime, to the sign-language and hula hooping our students have some really amazing skills. There are so many things our students can do about which I would like to learn more. I'd like to congratulate all of the students who took part in the show. I'd also like to thank all the parents for their efforts to make it happen, and all the teachers who either participated or attended. It was a great evening! Enjoy the week!
