Welcome

ART:

The art curriculum will focus on American art—in specific, early American art, Native American art, and photography. The curriculum will center around eighteen selected works, which will include paintings, sculpture, and architecture. Three of the 2003–2004 selected artworks are works of architecture. Monticello is located in Virginia, the Palmer-Epard Cabin is in Nebraska, and the Taos Pueblo is in New Mexico. There are three works from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. These are the Sikyatki Style Bowl, the work titled “Scenes of Plains Indian Life” by Cadzi Cody, and the Anishinabe Cape. Students can view images of these works at the museum’s web site: http://www.artsmia.org. All of the other works are from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Images of the works can be viewed on the museum’s web site: http://americanart.si.edu. The museum is, however, closed due to renovations, and many of the works from their collection are currently in a traveling exhibit.
