Welcome!

The mission of the FHS GSA is to provide a safe, supportive environment for students who might be struggling with their sexual orientation. In addition, the GSA promotes the concept of a safe school for ALL people.

Issues relating to GSA are not all that are discussed in any vertain GSA meeting. We come together as a mutual support system to all of our members in all parts of their lives, not just those that related to LGBTQQAI* issues.

The GSA is open to all interested students. All information discussed, as well as membership in this club, is kept confidential, and participation in any activity is optional. The GSA meets every Thursday after school in the FHS library conference room. Come join us anytime!

FHS GSA Events

We always welcome new members. Come join us on Thursdays after school in A206!

Recent GSA Activities

On October 26, 2005, we observed Domestic Violence Awareness Month by wearing purple ribbons. Did you know that in 25%-33% of GLBT relationships there is emotional/physical abuse? And this is only the percentage reflecting reported abuse cases. Awareness is the first step to preventing and helping to end abuse.

The mural class is in the process of creating a "DIVERSITY" mural at the bottom of A wing. Thank you to those involved in the design and creation process for lending your time to promoting awareness and acceptance!

Upcoming GSA Activities

Health Class Visits

We plan on visiting ninth grade health classes during the second term to raise awareness about the Gay/Straight Alliance's role in our school community. Also, we will be answering questions that students may have regarding GLBT issues in hopes of fostering a safer school environment where everyone feels comfortable to learn.

DAY OF SILENCE

We will be wearing black T-shirts with RAINBOW arm bands to identify ourselves as Day of Silence participants. We will also wear signs on our backs:
"My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is
caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination.
I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward
fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are
not hearing. What can you do to end the silence?"
