Meet Summary

Finally! A win over the always tough Oliver Ames Cross Country team. Today the Franklin cross country Team captured the Hockomock League Championship. The Franklin Panthers defeated both Oliver Ames and King Philip on the Panther’s home course. The Franklin girls placed 6 runners in the top 10 placements in the race. Oliver Ames was the defending champion and was led by their outstanding distance runner Jenna Davidner. Jenna won the race and set a new course record. The Franklin strategy of running as a pack, work very well as the girls finished in places 2 thru 6. The pack included Mary Cole, Megan Ross and Alex Giese, with Aubree Piepmeier and Emily Stickles only a few strides behind. Freshman Lauren Hagen was also right in the mix. The Panthers pushed the early pace and then increased the lead in the second and third miles. The Franklin Team has been running very well and  finishing strong in all of their competitions and this one was no different, as the girls sealed the victory for Franklin. Megan Shaw and Rachel Flynn also had outstanding performances for the Franklin team.

In the JV competition Siobhan Moynihan cruised to a victory and was followed very closely by Megan Morrison and Sarah Georges.

The next competition for the Panthers will be the Catholic Memorial Invitational which will be held at Franklin Park on Saturday  October 17th .

Franklin should have been ready to step it up a notch for Oliver Ames’ strong boys team… but they didn’t.   Hood and May shaved off 20 and 18 seconds from his last performance.  Henry sliced 2 seconds, and Butera cut 3 seconds off his previous time,  but Lazzeri added 2 seconds.  This would have been enough for most teams, but OA runners ran their PRs to new heights and beat Franklin by 13 points.

Franklin will have to start on a program of speed work to make sure their top 5 are all under 17:30 or the Hock Champs will be a Mansfield OA show of force.
