Summary

The Franklin Panthers had an outstanding day at the Wrentham Development Center’s Cross Country Course. Mary Cole became the first Franklin Cross Country athlete to win the State Coaches Meet. Mary just edged out a runner from Beverly High School at the finish line to take home the first place award. Megan Ross was only a few seconds behind Mary and in her initial State Coaches Meet she finished in 3rd place. Megan Shaw also medaled in this race as Megan completed the course and found herself a medal by finishing in the top 50.

The sophomores had three placements in their division. Emily Stickles continues to run well as she finished in 5th place. Rachel Flynn took home a medal as she placed 23rd in her age group. Kaitlin Spath racing in her second race since her injury managed to finish 49th and was awarded a medal for her effort.

The freshmen class also captured their share of medals. Four freshmen scored in the top 50. Lauren Hagen had a terrific day as she finished in second place. Lauren took an early lead and then found herself in a duel with a runner from Acton-Boxboro. The two ran side by side for a while and then the A-B runner pulled ahead. Lauren had to settle for 2nd place but ran a courageous race. The other Franklin freshmen who scored were Sarah Shaw (14), Siobhan Moynihan (26), Meghan Morrison (42). Sarah Georges just missed a medal as she finished 51st in the race. Tamysn Withers was Franklin’s 6th competitor in the race and did an outstanding job completing the course in 18:22.

The next race for the Panthers will be on Saturday at Franklin Park as the MIAA State Division I Championships will be held.
