Meet Summary

The Hockomock League Jamboree was held on Wednesday at the Easton Sheep Pasture. It was an awesome day to run as the weather was perfect for cross country running. The Panthers had several outstanding performances. Mary Cole finished 2nd in Race 1 which featured the number 1 runners from all the league teams. Mary ran a solid race and finished easily in 2nd place overall. Franklin’s winners included Megan Ross in Race 2 and Emily Stickles in Race 5. The team’s performance was highlighted by having 5 runners under 10 minutes in the race, this included Mary Cole, Megan Ross, Aubree Piepmeier, Rachel Flynn and Emily Stickles. There were several Fanklin runners who completed the course  just over the 10 minute mark. Many of the runners had their best performance and lowered personal bests on the course.  Overall the team had a solid competition finishing first in the team scoring in this scrimmage meet. The Panthers now works towards the dual meet season in the Hockomock League. The first dual meet will be next Tuesday in an away meet against Stoughton and Sharon high Schools.

Meet Summary

The Franklin boys arrived at the “Sheep Pasture” to run!.  The weather was perfect for running and that is what the boys did, coming in 3rd place in the Hocomock League Jamboree.

All 7 races were run on the same hilly, 1.5 mile, all trail course.  Running in different races, Commander Hood took the fastest Franklin time (5:11.3 pace), with Junior Henry in hot pursuit (5:12 pace), and Senior Gutkowski a bit behind Henry (5:17.3 pace).  These top 3 runners have to get their paces down to 5:10 by weeks end and 5:05 the following week to beat OA’s hoard and  down to 5:00 by the time we meet Mansfield’s legions.

Senior Butera fought off a last second challenge by another runner to record Franklin’s 4th fastest time of the day (5:33 pace).  He’ll need to get to 5:25, 5:20 and 5:15 to keep Franklin in the mix.

Melfi (5:39.3 pace) posted a faster time than May (5:42.7 pace), making him Franklin’s 5th runner… but for how long?  If May keeps looking at his watch when he runs the coach is going to take it away for the race. O’Donoghue (5:44 pace) – the dark horse – was 10th in the pecking order and is now almost equal to May’s 6th place time!

Lewin (5:47.3 pace) finished right behind O’Donoghue, and Hamlin (5:55.3 pace) was right behind Lewin.  That rounds out a solid 9 runners maintaining a sub 6 minute per mile pace.

A solid “B” pack of runners: Hamlin, Smith, Roy and Dutton have formed, followed by fast converging “C” group of: mini-Gutkowski, Hart, Cannon and Cotter.

With Soughton and Sharon next on the agenda, the Franklin boys need to eat their wheaties and attack every hill if they want to post their first set of “W”s.
