Semester Course
2.5 credits

Course Description

Advanced 3D is designated for highly motivated students who are committed to continuing their 3-dimensional artistic pursuits. In addition to the above information, students taking advanced sculpture will develop a concentration, a thematic body of work, while expanding their knowledge of materials, and process. Students will work independently, relying on critical thinking, problem solving, and exploration to create their own expressive work. This course is for more advanced art students who have excelled in art prior to this course.

  • Proposal:

In order to create a substantial body of work in a variety of materials, one must first determine a subject or area of focus. Like a concentration or thesis, you will be choosing a theme to explore over the course of the semester. During the first week of this course, you will be creating an artist statement that includes ideas of what direction your art might take. This will also include materials you would like to explore, intended scale of work, number of pieces, and of course, subject matter.

  • Journal:

This pinpoints significant ideas, observations, discoveries you've noted about your work, the work of fellow students, or other artists work. These journals will serve as progress reports and will also supplement your proposal. Journal writing and sketching can be as interesting as you want it to be. Think of the writing process as documenting your personal experiences this semester. Approach writing in it as you would approach making you artwork!
