Art History

Art History is open to student interested in learning about the integral role art has played throughout the history of our world. Books, magazines, digital images, and prints of master artworks will be shared with students so that they may develop a stronger understanding of the visual history of our world. Students will be required to read, write, and speak with clarity as they analyze artworks. This course will emphasize art media covered through other art department courses in order to help students make deeper connections between art making and art analysis. Connections to other art courses may include ceramics, community arts, design, digital art, drawing, mural-making painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Students will also complete a few studio assignments related to art history areas studied.

Personal effort, critical thinking, discussion, weekly reading and writing, and other long range assignments are all included in the grading process. A consistent willingness to work collaboratively is especially important in this course during discussions and team assignments and some projects will require time beyond the regular school day.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Intro to Art, World History and US History. Please carefully review page 9 of the program of studies for standards of a Honors level course.
