FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE
( Course Goal: The primary goal of Child Development I is to help the high school student become more understanding of the role that they as parents and potential child care workers have on those first years. If students achieve an understanding of young children, their needs and their development, it will give them a better understanding of themselves and how they will respond to future circumstances.
Child Development II- Grades 10, 11 Course Goal: The primary goal of Child Development II is to study the child's developmental years and to help the high school student become more aware of the role that they are as parents, and potential child care workers have on those first years, and throughout the family life-cycle. If students achieve an understanding of young children, their needs and their development, it will give them a better understanding of how to relate and react to daily situations. This will better prepare them for a career involving children and parenthood.
Course Goal: This course is designed to prepare the student for the real world. The goal is to help them become successful member of society by setting goals, and taking responsibility for their lives through sound decision making. As students graduate from high school, they will find themselves living on their own at college, in the military, or on the job. To meet these challenges, Families and Futures offers means of approaching these problems head on. Through working cooperatively, students will explore a wide range of topics, such as career choices, dating and mate selection, choosing a college, planning a marriage, preparing nutritionally balanced meals, renting versus buying a house, leasing verses buying a car, and other skills that will aid them in their transitional years. These skills are planned with an eye to making Families and Futures relevant for all students, by helping them develop to their fullest potential.
Course Goal:This course provides a hands-on approach to education and working with disabled students. We will use our classroom knowledge to develop one-to-one activities for students in a special needs program. Some of the requirements will be to learn about the laws for disabilities, to plan lessons and games for students, and to participate in various learning activities. Thiss class is a must for anyone seeking a future in education or special education, but it can be valuable to all. It will be educational and fun. Projects and reports are a part of this course.
