Salvete, Discipuli!

WELCOME BACK TO THE 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR IN CLASSICS AT FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL!

We are especially happy to announce that Mrs. Jennifer Dohm (B.A., Classics - College of the Holy Cross; M.A.T., Latin & Classical Humanities - UMASS-Amherst), who has been the Latin teacher at Annie Sullivan Middle School for the past four years, will be joining the high school staff this year. Mrs. Dohm will be teaching all sections of Latin I, and the College Prep sections of Latin II, III and IV. We also take special pride in noting that one of our graduates, Andrew Carroll, (FHS '04 and UMASS-Amherst '08) will be the new Latin teacher at Horace Mann Middle School.

Continue to check this page for current information about items of interest to Latin students and their parents. Area events (lectures, films, conferences, exhibits, etc.) will also be posted here.

Latin Carol Celebration at Brown University, Providence, R.I.

This Year's Celebration: On Monday, December 8, 2008, the Department of Classics will present its sixty-first annual program of readings and songs in the spirit of the season, conducted entirely in Latin. (English translations of the readings will be provided for those whose spoken Latin may be a little rusty.) This popular event will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the historic First Baptist Church in America, 75 North Main Street, Providence. Admission is free; street parking is available; the event lasts a little more than an hour; all are welcome.

For high school Latin students: We are delighted that a number of high school Latin students attend this event. Students should be accompanied by an adequate number number of chaperones, and should know that this is a fairly "dressy" event held in an historic church.
