Math Study Skills

YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNED HOMEWORK

  • Work through problems the way you see them done in class and how they should be in your notebook.
  • BE ORGANIZED!!!
  • When you are working on your homework and you are having trouble understanding a problem you have a few options:

    1. Look through your notes/book for a similar problem and follow those
    same steps.
    2. The odd numbered answers are in the back of the book.Check them!!
    3. Ask a friend who has taken or is in the course.
    4. See your teacher for extra help.
    5. If you are at home, send your teacher an email for help.
    6. Mark any misunderstood problem.
    7. Work in groups.
    8. NEVER leave a concept misunderstood for more than one day!!!!

CORRECT YOUR HOMEWORK

  • When your teacher is reading off the answers, or gives you the answer sheets, you should be marking correct or incorrect. If you are incorrect, write the correct answer next to your problem.
  • Make sure you understand all mistakes made!

STUDY FOR QUIZZES AND TESTS

  • Collect all of your notes and homework from the chapter/sections so that you are organized and ready to study.
  • Make up a practice test/quiz from problems in your notes/homework. Take this with no help at all! This enables you to realize what you need to focus your studies on.
  • WORK THROUGH PROBLEMS!!! Do not look at problems only, this will do you no good!
  • Study in groups…as long as they are working study groups as opposed to chatty ones!
  • Do NOT cram! Study in intervals and start to study the day the test date is known.
