FHS Math Student Profile
Franklin High School offers the following 6 math courses for grade 9 students:
(Please see Program of Studies for description and progression of courses.)

Algebra I Honors Algebra I CP
Geometry Honors Geometry CP
Algebra II Honors Algebra II CP

Placement into grade 9 math course offerings is dependent on the math course taken in grade 8 as well as teacher recommendations, which includes an evaluation of grades earned each term.

To receive a teacher recommendation for an honors math course, students should:
  • Demonstrate an organized, independent, diligent approach to academics that goes beyond simply “getting work done” for classroom credit
  • Read and take notes on a lesson before it is presented in class in preparation for class discussion.
  • Arrive to class having identified previous night’s homework problem areas that require teacher clarification.
  • Be prepared to be assessed on extensions of topics presented in class.
  • Demonstrate “maturity” in investigating new mathematical concepts.
  • In addition, students placed into:
    • Algebra II Honors typically earn a B or better in Math 9(Geometry).
    • Geometry Honors, typically earn a B or better in Math 8A.
    • Algebra I Honors, typically earn a C or better in Math 8A or a B+ or better in Math 8B.
