What does it mean to “go beyond” on a writing assignment? Task: Write about your family. College Prep student might write: I have a mom and dad. I have a brother. My mom is 40 years old. My dad is 41 years old. My brother is 6 years old. My family is nice. Honors student might write: There are four persons in my family: my mom, my dad, my brother and me. My mother is 40 years old. She is tall and she has blue eyes and blond hair. My father is 41 years old. He is very smart and interesting. My dad has brown eyes and hair. Paco, my brother is 6 years old. He is cute. I am 15 years old and I have blue eyes and brown hair. Both students have successfully completed the task but the Honors student has embellished his/her writing by going beyond the basics. |
