What were the advantages of farming?

• Raise much more food than a hunter-gather could collect

• Lots of people could live in a small area…

• Now think of why large numbers of people together would be good.

• Could choose where to live even if wild food is scarce.

• Surplus food could be used for trade

• Surplus food could be saved for a time of famine

• Not all parts of the world were into farming

• On 5 continents there were farming communities

• Mostly the farming communities were near the equator

Prediction—Because there was fertile soil in the area where farming began farming could be productive

Prediction—Communities were located near fresh water sources---rivers and lakes




Why was language important to man’s advancement?
