Causes (355)
--Persian wanted to build empire so extended control to Greek
city-states along Aegean Sea

--Athens had sent soldiers to help Greek city-states who were under
attack and the Persians wanted to punish Athens for helping the
rebellion

Momentous moment during the war (355-356)

---Athens defeated the Persians at the Bay of Marathon

--Ten years later Persia returned with 200,000 soldiers
and at Thermopylae the combined Greek armies were defeated
by the Persians

--Persians swept across Greece and set Athens on fire

Factors that led to end of the war

--Greeks tricked the Persians in a sea battle and Persians lost
half their fleet

---United Greek city-states took on Persia and the "little guys"
defeated Persia's huge, powerful army

Aftermath--effect after war over

---The Greek city-states learned a lesson---even though maybe
small in size, if they are united they can defeat the
"Goliath" --Persia

---inference --Forget ones differences and WORK TOGETHER
for a greater good!!!
