CHECKLIST

 

1.)          Introduction Sentence : Restate the question and answer it

 

2.)          Supporting Idea #1: one specific example from the poem/excerpt that supports what you said in your introduction

 

3.)          Quote to support idea #1 and an explanation of the quote: A statement like “For instance, when (poet/author’s name) writes (quotation), he/she means (explain what you just quoted)

 

4.)          Supporting Idea #2: a second specific example from the poem/excerpt that supports what you said in your introduction

 

5.)          Quote to support idea #2 and an explanation of the quote: A statement like “For instance, when (author’s name) writes (quotation), he/she means (explain what you just quoted)

 

6.)          Supporting Idea #3: a third specific example from the poem/excerpt that supports what you said in your introduction

 

7.)          Quote to support idea #3 and an explanation of the quote: A statement like “For instance, when (author’s name) writes (quotation), he/she means (explain what you just quoted)

 

8.)          Conclusion Sentence: This should summarize the answer or leave the reader with a final thought

 

Remember to:

·      Use transition words for each new idea

·      Restate the original question in your introduction

·      Stay away from phrases such as “I think” “I believe”, “Maybe the author means”, “All in all”, and “In conclusion”.

·      Have at least three supports and examples
