A complete list of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks to be covered can be viewed by clicking the Curriculum button below.

Class Expectations:

· Respect each other, the lesson, and the materials in the classroom.
· Be prepared: come to class with all needed materials.
· Leave areas you visit clean, organized, and litter free.
· Never give up!

Science Expectations:

Units of Study

• Heat Transfer in the Earth System: Climate and Weather
• Motion and Energy: Fast and Slow Motions on Planet Earth
• The Moon, Planets, Stars, and Other Objects in Space: Origins and Movements

Evaluation
Each trimester grade will be based on tests, quizzes, labs, projects, and a science notebook. Grades will be weighted as follows:
Tests 35%
Quizzes 25%
Labs/Projects 30%
Science Notebook 10%

Homework
Daily homework will not be graded, unless specifically stated, but it will be checked. Credit for an assignment is only given on the day that it is due. Two homework assignments may be missed during a grading period without penalty. If a third homework assignment is missed, the percentage grade will drop by 1 point. The percentage grade will continue to drop by 1 point for each additional homework assignment that is missed. The maximum penalty for missing homework repeatedly is a drop of your average by one third of a grade (from A to A-).

Improving a grade
A test grade may be raised to an 80% by retaking a new version of the test. A student must make corrections and show evidence of review work before the retake.

Materials
Students may use a one subject notebook or a section in a 3-ring binder notebook for class notes. A two-pocket folder will organize handouts and homework papers. Additional essential materials for class are: a marble composition book, calculator, pencils, colored pencils, erasable pens, and a highlighter.

Safety
Handle all materials with respect and proper care. Students and parents must read and sign the Middle School Science Safety Contract to ensure safety in the classroom.

Extra Help
Please make arrangements one day ahead. Extra help will be available most days after school (excluding Wednesdays)and during H Period.

If You Were Absent
See Mrs. Forman at a convenient time (after class, during homeroom, or after school) to make up missed work. Follow the cluster's Absence Checklist to help you organize after an absence. Labs, tests, and quizzes must be made up within one week after your return to school. More time may be allowed for projects or after a long absence.
