Vocabulary Match Cards

For this activity, you will create flash cards with a twist.
The cards you create will be used for a matching game. Please
follow the directions below to create this helpful study tool!

1. Using the list provided by the teacher, write one word near
the top of the LINED SIDE of each index card.

2. Write YOUR definition for each word on the same side of the
card, about 4 lines down. Make sure you have some room between
the word and its definition, you will be cutting the two apart.

3. On the blank side of each card, create a different picture.
This can be simple or elaborate; a symbol, or a portrait. The
picture will be cut in half and used to check your answers.

4. Cut the index cards in half so that the word is on one half,
and the definition is on the other half. The picture should be
cut in half. When the two cards are joined, the picture should
be complete again.

5. Test yourself! Place all the cut up index cards on a flat
surface, and mix them up. Make sure all of the words/definitions
are facing up. Try to match each word to its definition with out
looking at your notes/book. Check your answers by turning over
the cards and seeing if the pictures match up. But no cheating!
Don’t look at the picture until you have made a guess.
