Homework Policy
Homework Policy
Beginning Term 2 (November 8, 2004)

Homework is an important part of your math course. It is an opportunity for you to “practice” the skills we are learning in class and to identify areas that are giving you difficulty so you can seek extra help. Because homework is so important in math, it counts for 15% of your term grade.

Here are some homework rules that you should keep in mind. These are the same rules we have been following all year. The only “new policy” is the Homework Quiz which is mentioned as item #10.

Please read through these rules and ask any questions you might have. You are responsible for following these rules so make sure you understand them.

1. Homework should be completed the night it is assigned and brought to class with you.
2. If you have not completed your homework for any reason, you may bring in a note signed by a parent/guardian explaining the situation. This will give you 1 extra day to complete the homework. You are still responsible for completing the homework and you should turn it in the next day otherwise it will be a zero.
3. If you do not have your homework with you in class, you will receive a zero for that assignment and you must complete the Missing Homework Sheet to be turned in to Mrs. Ridley at the beginning of the class.(attachment)
4. Late homework will not be accepted for credit.
5. Under no circumstances will a blank problem be acceptable. If you are having difficulty with the homework and are not sure how to complete a problem, you should:
a. Write down the problem on your homework sheet.
b. Underline any words or phrases you don’t understand.
c. Circle the parts of the assignment with which you are having difficulty.
d. Record the questions you have.
e. Make an attempt at completing the problem
6. The homework is written on the board each day and you are responsible for writing it down in your planner. You may double check the assignment by going to my website. The website should be a back up source of information since there may be times when the website has not been updated.
7. If you don’t have the homework assignment, you have several options:
a. Check the website
b. Call another student in the class
c. Send Mrs. Ridley an email at ridleya@franklin.k12.ma.us
d. Bring in a signed note from home
8. Homework should be corrected in class each day in RED pen. You are responsible for having your own red correcting pen each day.
9. Every day, Mrs. Ridley will stamp your homework for “completeness.”
10. On Fridays, you will have a Homework Quiz. The quiz grade will consist of two parts:
a. There will be a quiz sheet where several homework problems from that week will be identified. You will complete the quiz by copying down your homework answers showing your work. (5 points)
b. Your homework for the week will be collected. Each “stamped” assignment will count for 1 point.

Please sign this form and have a parent/guardian sign it and return it to Mrs. Ridley tomorrow. Thank you.
