My name is Kym Cameron and I am the school nurse at Horace Mann Middle School. My phone number is 541-6230. I am in the school office from 7:30am -2:30pm. If I am out or busy with a student, please feel free to leave me a message and I will return your call. With the arrival of the cold and flu season, I am asking for your help in utilizing the following guidelines to help prevent an illness cycle. A child should stay home for AT LEAST 24 hours to rest if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night... Vomiting and/or diarrhea Fever > 100 degrees Cold and cough with colored nasal drainage Itchy or reddened eyes with drainage Moderate to severe pain An unusual rash A poor night's sleep due to illness, cough, etc... Please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently, to keep their hands out of their mouths and not to share drinks or food with their friends. Please contact your child's health care provider if any symptoms persist. Recently, there have been some cases of strep throat in our school. Please review some of the signs and symptoms of strep throat... Sore throat Headache Stomachache/vomiting Swollen and tender neck glands If your child develops any of these symptoms, please contact their health care provider, tell him/her that other children in school have had strep throat, and ask to have your child tested for strep. Once strep has been detected in your child, our best defense against spreading it is to keep your child home for AT LEAST 24 hours after antibiotics have begun. Make sure to complete the full course of antibiotics and PLEASE CALL AND LET ME KNOW THAT YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH STREPT THROAT. |
