Reading is a complex process. Apply some of these reading strategies to strengthen your reading comprehension and keep you on track.* Clarify -Monitor your understanding - Make sure you can answer the question, "Does this make sense?" *Make Connections - Does this text remind you of something in your life, another book, or the world? *Question - Effective readers always ask questions before, during, and after reading. *Visualize - Start the movie reel! Making pictures in your mind or on paper as you read enhances your understanding. *Predict - What do you think will happen next? * Infer - Read between the lines. To infer, you take clues from the text and combine them with your background knowledge to form a theory. *Mark & Highlight - Highlight or underline key words and phrases as you read. |
