Student Council

The Student Council will be an elected body whose purposes are:

  • To involve students in sharing ideas and in working together to benefit the Jefferson School community and the larger community of Franklin.
  • To give students practice in democracy in action.
  • To enhance good citizenship.

Advisors: Ms. Johnson, Ms. Wagner, Mr. Chelman

Officers: The Council shall elect a fifth grader to serve as President, a third grader as Vice-President, and a fourth grader as Secretary. Officers shall serve for a 1/2 year term.

Representatives: 1 class representative for each classroom in grades 3,4,5 and the ungraded class. All students will have the opportunity to be nominated, to vote, and to offer ideas for Council action. Students wising to run for Student Council shall submit a nomination form to their teacher which indicates their desire to run, and which requires a parent/guardian's signature. Representatives shall serve for 1/2 or 1 year terms, to be determined by the Council members.

Representatives shall report to their constituent classmates on a regular basis and seek input on issues before the Council.

Meetings: The Council will usually meet on the third Tuesday of the month from about 7:45 to 8:20 am. Meetings will be open, although only council members will have voting rights. Parliamentary procedure will be taught and practiced at Council meetings.
