Meet Mrs Murphy

Welcome To My Class.....

My name is Wendy Murphy and I am a First Grade Teacher here at Helen Keller Elementary School. I live with my husband, Mark in East Falmouth on Cape Cod. I enjoy walking along the beach with my husband and my dog, Scout, riding bikes around Falmouth and on Martha's Vineyard, and playing tennis in the summer.

Prior to moving to the Cape, we lived in Norfolk, MA for 23 years with our two daughters, Courtney and Heidi and our dog Scout. Both our daughters graduated from St. Michael's College in Colchester VT, where they played on the St. Michael's Women's Tennis Team, both serving as captains of the team their senior year, in addition to studying hard! They are now launched in their own professions; Courtney lives in South Boston and is a First Grade Teacher in Walpole. Heidi lives in Burlington, VT and is an Educator/Counselor at an Alternative Middle/High School.

I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont in 1976 and gained a Master Degree in Elementary Education from Fitchburg State College in 2000. I have been teaching for 18 years in the Franklin system. My career path began when I followed Heidi to school. I volunteered and substituted at her Nursery School in Norfolk, was the Kindergarten Aide at The Freeman Centennial School in Norfolk where both my girls attended Elementary School, and from there, I substituted in Norfolk and in surrounding schools in our area. I was hired as a First Grade Teacher in Franklin for the 1991-92 school year at Davis Thayer School. My last year at Davis Thayer was spent in Second Grade as I "looped" from First Grade with my students. I then transferred to Helen Keller Elementary School when it opened in the fall of 2002 and have enjoyed being a part of creating an enriching learning environment here for the past seven years. I am so grateful for the opportunity to walk along with so many First Graders as they embark on their "Life-Long Learning Journey". It is truly a rewarding career!
