The Korean War Memorial

Looking at the Korean War statues feels like the actual war itself. The Korean War Memorial honors the people who fought in the Korean War. The Memorial was started on November 1993, but not opened until July 27th, 1995. The designers were Cooper-Lecky Architects. The sculptor was Frank Gaylard and the muralist was Louis Nelson and Associates. The Korean War Memorial cost 18 million dollars in donated funds to build! The sizes are unbelievable. The mural is 164 feet long. The statues are nineteen feet tall. Larger than life! The materials they used to build The Korean War Memorial was stainless steel for the statues and granite for the mural. The Memorial is directly across from the reflecting pool and near The Lincoln Memorial. The Korean War Memorial is a grand location to have a picnic and remember all about the so long past Korean War.

There are many odd, cool, and amazing details about the Korean War Memorial. One odd thing about the memorial is it took a long time to honor the war which took place in 1950. The monument wasn’t built until 1995. An amazing thing about the memorial is how the statues look so anxious and afraid. Almost as if bullets could hit them at any minute. The Korean War memorial is amazing because the soldiers are standing in such a life-like position. A cool thing about the memorial is the mural. It has thousands of faces of the people who helped in the war such as nurses, doctors, and the soldiers. All in all, the Korean War Memorial is a special way for people to remember the war.

The Korean War was a short, but very important war. The War started because North Korea invaded South Korea trying to take over that country. The United Nations asked its member countries to help South Korea. The United States is a member of the United Nations. The Korean War lasted for three years. Korea is in Asia and near China. The Korean War started in 1950 and ended in 1953. The Korean war was fought in Korea. It seemed so wrong that some people who fought in the Korean War died. Although wars are sometimes necessary, it is always sad when soldiers die.
