The Lincoln Memorial is an important memorial of our country. The Lincoln Memorial honors Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. The Lincoln Memorial was started in 1912 and was finished in 1922. This Memorial was designed by Henry Bacon. This historical building cost about three million dollars to build. The building measures close to 44 feet high. The Lincoln Memorial is made out of granite, marble, and limestone. The Lincoln Memorial is located by the Washington Monument. In the Lincoln Memorial there is a statue of Abraham Lincoln. There are also 36 columns that represent the 36 states in the union when Lincoln died in 1865. It holds 3 chambers and has a reflecting pool in front of it. In closing Lincoln Memorial is a special memorial.

The Lincoln Memorial is an interesting and unusual monument. One funny fact about the Lincoln Memorial is it was built on swamp land. The Lincoln Memorial is cleaned every year with steam because the birds and insects can damage it. Something different about the Lincoln Memorial is it has a reflecting pool in front of it. Did you know you can see the Lincoln Memorial on the back of a penny? As you can see, the Lincoln Memorial is a great place to visit.

Abraham Lincoln was a very good president for our country. Abraham Lincoln was the president of the United States of America from 1861 to 1865. He deserved a monument because he stopped slavery and thought all people should be treated equally. Abraham Lincoln is known for his famous speech at Gettysburg “ Four scores and seven years ago...” Abraham Lincoln died in 1865. Abraham Lincoln was shot in his head at Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth. We still honor him today because he was brave and changed our country.
