![]() The Supreme CourtbyKyle Casey and Krystal The Supreme Court is the most important court in the United States. At the Supreme Court the Justices decide if the laws of our country are being followed and decide if the laws are fair. In the Supreme Court there are 9 judges that are called Justices. The Justice that is in charge of the Supreme Court is called the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice right now is William H. Rehnquist. During the summer, the Justices decide what cases they will consider next term. The term starts in October. The Supreme Court is the top of the Judicial Branch of the government. The Supreme Court is very important to the nation. The Supreme Court is one of the most historic buildings in Washington D.C. The Supreme Court was designed by Cass Gilbert. It was built from 1932 to 1935. In 1935, the Supreme Court finally had it’s own building. It met in the Capitol building before 1932. The outside walls of the Supreme Court are made out of marble, and white oak is used on the inside of the building. The Supreme Court cost about $9,740,000 to build. The Supreme Court is a beautiful site in Washington D.C. The Supreme Court is a very interesting place for many reasons. Something cool about the Supreme Court is that has a basketball court called The Highest Court in the land. It’s funny because the Supreme Court is also called the Highest Court in the land. When the Justices walk into the Supreme Court, there is a person that shouts “Oyez, oyez, oyez!” The main floor of the Supreme Court has many offices for the Justices, law clerks, and secretaries. The library in the Supreme Court has a collection of about 450,000 volumes of law books. Once you become a Justice at the Supreme Court you are at that job until you retire or until your life is over. All and all, the Supreme Court is a very interesting place.
