Wonderful World of Science

The following science units are studied in third grade:
Living Things
The Solar System
Sound

Living Things

The study of living things compares the life cycles of animals, insects, and plants. The students observe the stages of a butterfly's life, observe a seed growing into a plant, and research different animals. The students will learn that living things grow, reproduce, and adapt to their environment.

The Solar System

In our study of the solar system, students learn facts about the nine planets, the sun,the moon, asteroids, comets and constellations. Students observe the phases of the moon, investigate why we have seasons and what causes night and day.

Click on the telescope for some fun links to the solar system.

Sound

The study of sound demonstrates through hands on activities how sound travels in waves. Students will discover that sound must have a sound source, sound receiver and a medium to travel through. Students practice sound discrimination and investigate how to create high and low pitches.
