BACKPACKS:
To help your child organize school materials, it is strongly recommended that your child bring a backpack to school each day. This backpack should be labeled with your child’s first AND last name. It should be large enough to accommodate large projects and folders. Parents should check the contents each day. CLASSROOM VISITORS: It is the policy of the Keller School that all visitors sign in at the office before visiting any classroom. Unscheduled visits to a classroom can be distracting. Please make arrangements to schedule time in class. If you just need to drop something off for your child, you can leave it at the office and we will be contacted. CLOTHING: Please send your child to school in comfortable clothing that is appropriate for indoor and outdoor play. Children will interact more readily when they are not afraid of ruining their clothes. All outerwear should be labeled with your child’s first AND last name including hats, mittens, boots and sweaters. **Every child should have a COMPLETE set of extra clothing at school (to be left in cubbies in small labeled plastic bags) including shirt, shorts/pants, underwear and socks. These will be sent home periodically to check for fit and seasonal appropriateness. LUNCH MONEY: The cost of lunch is $2.00 which includes milk. The cost of milk only is $.50. Children purchasing lunch or milk should have their money enclosed in a clear, plastic bag or envelope. Your child’s name and lunch choice should be clearly written on it. Even if you are prepaying, it is necessary for your child to have this lunch or milk note each day. Please go over your child’s choice each time, as this decision needs to be made BEFORE coming to school. Please note that ice cream is not available to Kindergartners at this time. PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION: Please make sure that your child is aware of any notes, lunch money or other items you have put into his/her backpack or folder. We will communicate with you through letters, email and/or telephone throughout the school year. We can determine which option works best for you. PARENT VOLUNTEERS: Parent participation is welcome in our classroom. This includes volunteering to help with classroom activities or helping to prepare materials at home. Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated! A CORI (Criminal Offense Record Information) disclosure form must be completed before volunteering in the classroom. A photo ID must be shown either in the office or to a teacher. QUIET TIME: Children will need to bring a SMALL beach towel or blanket for quiet time. Children should not bring in stuffed animals or pillows. These towels will go home on Friday so that they can be washed. Please return them on Monday. It would be helpful if it is labeled with first and last names. SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB: Occasionally an order form may be sent home in order for you to purchase books through the Scholastic Book Club. You are not obligated to purchase anything. The total class purchases provide the teacher with bonus points that can be used towards free books and/or additional classroom materials. When ordering, please make checks payable to Scholastic Books. We cannot accept cash or any checks that are made out to us. Your check and order form should be sent in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name. SNACKS: Children need to bring a small, healthy snack and drink (no soda please) to school each day for our snack time. Please be sure that your child can identify what you have planned for snack and what is for lunch. * Please refer to our separate memo about allergies and how they impact your child’s snack selection this year. TOYS: Children should not bring toys to school unless specifically requested by the teacher. It is distracting to the school experience and encourages other children to do the same. Children will be given an opportunity during Super Kid week to share items from home. BUS TAGS: ALL of the children will be given “bus tags,” whether they are on the bus, are walkers, car pick-ups, or Solutions. Please make sure that your child wears the bus tag for the first 2-3 weeks of school. After that time, your child’s tag should be kept in the front pocket of his or her backpack. This tag allows us quick identification of who the child is and where he or she is supposed to be. NOTES FOR BEING ABSENT: All children are required to bring in a note after being absent. Children absent for 5 or more days will need a doctor’s note to return to school. HOLIDAYS: Part of the Kindergarten experience is to learn about all kinds of celebrations. If your child/family does or does not celebrate a particular holiday that we should be aware of, please let us know by dropping us a note. For the most part, we look at the traditions involved in holiday celebrations and traditions that are special to each of the children in the class. ALLERGIES: If your child has an allergy (particularly a food allergy) that we need to know about, please drop us a note. Please also make sure that you let our school nurse know. |
