Sunday, April 30, 2012

Good afternoon,

This past week was an exciting one that began with the sharing of stories from the vacation week and ended with Mr. Mike Day! In between we had Beautification Day, the 5th grade party and Secretaries Day. In addition to the many wonderful learning experiences that took place in each of our classroom communities, it was a great week filled with many exciting events .

As I mentioned, we celebrated Secretaries Day on Wednesday and Mr. Mike Day on Friday. These are days we set aside as a school community to thank Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Carucci and Mr. Mike for the hard work, dedication and smiles they bring to Keller each and every day. I know you join me in thanking them for all they do for the Keller community!

This coming week we look forward to Arts Night, MA Walk to School Day and the Young Artists' Show at FHS! See below for more details on each of these events. I often equate the time leading up to spring vacation as a slow ascent up a long roller coaster mount. Monday was our tipping point - as you can see by the "Upcoming May Events" there are many events to look forward to as we begin the fast descent on our roller coaster to summer vacation! It will be a fun ride to be sure :)

Have a wonderful week,

Keller Updates: (The titles of new information are in color)

5K & Family Fun Day: On Sunday, June 3rd the PCC will be hosting our first ever 5k & Family Fun Day. In addition to a Kids Fun Run, there will be many events for the whole family to enjoy during and after the big race. Participants in the 5K can run or walk. Click here for more information or to register!

Arts Night: The students of Keller School will showcase their growth in Music and Art at this year's Arts Night on Wednesday May 2nd. Arts Night will be held in the cafeteria. Due to the restrictions of our parking lot, we ask that parents adhere to the following schedule to keep the evening flowing: Kindergarten and First Grade start the evening from 5:30-5:55, then Second and Third Grade from 6:00-6:25, and Fourth and Fifth Grade from 6:30-7:00. The students' artwork will be on display as well as a demonstration of songs and activities from Music class.

MA Walk to School Day: We will join schools across the Commonwealth on Wednesday as we celebrate MA Walks to School Day. If you are interested in joining us, gather at Dacey Field at 7:45 for a 7:50 departure.

Coins for Keller: The collection jugs are in the lobby and the signs are posted - we are ready to begin this fundraiser! The grade that raises the most money will earn an extra recess and popsicle party.

From the School Nurse: We can always use extra clothes for the kids who need to change during the school day.  We are looking for donations in all sizes. When you are cleaning out closets and changing over to summer clothing, please consider dropping off some items here at the Clinic.

Safety First: An important safety reminder to parents who drive their child(ren) to school. Children cannot be dropped off prior to 8:15 as there is no supervision until that time. The only students who congregate outside are those who walk to school.

Safety First: As the weather turns warmer and the sun shines brightly, it is important to remember that children spend 20 minutes outside for recess each day. They also may be going outside for PE classes. Sunscreen should be applied in the morning prior to coming to school.

Incoming Kindergarteners 2012-2013: We will hold our annual parent information night for incoming Kindergarten families on Thursday, May 24th beginning at 6:00. This is a change from the original date of Thursday, May 17th.

Are you aware of this opportunity to raise money for Keller? Did you know you can earn Box Tops for Keller by shopping online? Click here to learn more information!

Another Box Tops Opportunity: Please visit Growing Local Learning's website for a number of box top fundraising options; they also have a Facebook page.  If families choose to, they can "like" Growing Local Learning on Facebook to receive updates of savings opportunities at Shaw's.   There are currently two offers to earn bonus box tops with the purchase of General Mills products as well as to save $$ purchasing a combination of 5 GM products.
