![]() Students at Keller Elementary participate in a balanced literacy program including emphasis on phonemic awareness and phonetic ability along with exposure to vocabulary rich authentic literature. Students in all grades are taught reading skills and strategies to enable them to read a variety of genres including fiction and expository pieces. Keller has a full time Reading Specialist who works with individual students, parents, and teachers to ensure successful reading experiences for students in grades K through five. The Reading Specialist organizes book fairs periodically throughout the year where students and parents have an opportunity to select books of interest. Click here to see the book fair schedule. The Reading Specialist also organizes a Summer Reading Program. Selected students in grades three, four, and five have the opportunity to participate in after school reading clubs designed to improve reading comprehension. Students are selected based on reading needs and teacher recommendations. The program is free of charge and runs from early November to the end of April. 7660 Updated: Mar 25, 2004
