Outlaw Words and Basic Sight Vocabulary

![]() Dear Family, We cannot stress to you enough the IMPORTANCE of practicing Outlaw Words and Basic Sight Vocabulary words with your children on a daily basis. Outlaw words are words that cannot be sounded out phonetically and must therefore be memorized. These words must be learned to MASTERY with instant sight recognition. Without mastery, these words become major stumbling blocks and hinder both fluency and comprehension. This list is divided into two parts.
Please practice Outlaw Words first! The words near the end of each list are more difficult, but are very common in reading and writing. Practicing these words will be the greatest gift you can give your child in first grade. Thank you for helping your child become a successful reader!
