An Urgent Request from Your PCC
We Need Your Help!

Every spring, the Kennedy School PCC begins planning for the next school year. This planning includes reviewing fundraisers and events, as well as getting volunteers on board to help with our activities. One month ago, we posted a sign-up board in the school lobby for volunteers to help with our committees. To date, the board remains nearly empty.

Thanks to all the wonderful support of the Kennedy community, the PCC is in strong financial shape. In addition to the budgeted expenses for this year, we have been able to establish a new “playground fund,” pay for field trips for four of the six grades so far, and approve additional grants from teachers. We appreciate the help of all our wonderful volunteers who ran the committees this year and did such a terrific job. These volunteers are one of the main reasons we are in such good financial standing. And next year has the potential to be even better, as we use the money we raised this year to support enrichment programs, field trips, library books and supplies, playground and recess materials and more. However, none of that can happen without the involvement of parents.

We are in dire need of volunteers to help with our activities, especially a new PCC Board (Chair, Co-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary), for the 2010-2011 school year. Several long-standing volunteers are “graduating” from Kennedy and we need some new faces to join and keep things running. Additionally, many of our volunteers have worked for several years on their committees and it is time for new people to step up. Please consider helping.

Many of the committees can be run by 1-2 people, some work better with a group. All need additional volunteers to assist during the event/fundraiser itself. Many hands make light work....please do not be afraid to help out. So often people operate on the assumption that “someone else will do it.” But now is the time for YOU to be that “someone else.”

What happens if not enough people volunteer?

Our PCC by-laws require that the new Board be voted into their positions for the following year at the last meeting of the year in June. If a new Board for 2010-2011 is not in place by June 2010, the PCC cannot continue as a viable organization. We will have to disband and transfer any existing funds in our account over to Mrs. Toye and the school to use at their discretion. We would also have to dissolve ourselves as a 501(c)(3) and it would be very costly to reinstate us as a non-profit.

There is a brief description of all the existing committees on our website, and attached to this letter. The current board is always available to answer any questions; please email us if you have any questions about the time commitment for any volunteer positions you are interested in. Our email addresses are at the PCC website.

The Kennedy School PCC has been hugely successful in years past. We are always amazed by the generosity of our families, and we thank you all for your support. However, we are not all about money....your TIME can be your most valuable asset.

Please volunteer to help. After so many successful years, it would be a shame to dissolve the PCC because of a lack of volunteers. We understand that your time is valuable and work, children, after-school activities and other commitments can interfere with volunteering at the school. Most of our volunteers from the last few years have held part- and full-time jobs outside the home. If YOU don’t help, then who will?
