'Ladybugs on a Roll' Program

LADYBUGS ON A ROLL STUDENT RECOGNITION PROGRAM

Courtesy. Honesty. Kindness. Fairness. Diligence. All of these admirable qualities are evident in the hallways, classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, and playground of the John F. Kennedy School each day. While much of the credit surely goes to our parents for instilling these fine character traits in the children, we want to do as much as we can to reinforce the behaviors at school. Therefore, we are thrilled to introduce the Ladybugs on a Roll, Student Recognition Program.

After a series of introductory assemblies with the student body, the program will officially get underway on February 1, 2008. All staff members will have a supply of tickets to award to any student “caught” demonstrating good citizenship. The qualities we are seeking are described in the John F. Kennedy School constitution, which hangs in every classroom and hopefully will become more and more familiar to the students. At the end of each week, students in grades K through 5 will exchange any tickets they have received for small rewards from a beautifully designed Ladybugs on a Roll trunk in the “Toye Store”. Tickets will be placed in grade level ladybug bins, and children will have their names prominently recorded on an official scroll on display in the foyer of the school. At the end of each month, one child from each grade will be randomly chosen as that grade’s “Citizen of the Month.” The more tickets a child receives, the greater the chance of being selected. The six lucky citizens will have their names announced over the loudspeaker, will have the honor of sitting in a spectacular Ladybug throne for one whole day in their classroom, and will have their picture showcased in our foyer display case.

We have high hopes that wonderful behavior, consistent academic effort, and demonstrations of kindness will increase as we recognize such fine character traits. We sincerely thank the PCC for once again supporting us and funding this exciting new, school-wide endeavor. Finally, we also want to thank the members of our School Council who have been working diligently on this portion of the John F. Kennedy School Improvement Plan.
