Welcome to Fourth Grade Learning Experiences in Fourth Grade!

Fourth Grade in E-205 is an exciting year filled with wonderful opportunities to grow and learn! This year we will strive to become independent workers, proficient readers, and mathematical thinkers. Organizational and social skills will also be given high priority as everyone learns to work together to carefully follow written and oral directions.

Language Arts
Literature circles, reading workshop, trade books, and other short reading selections will be used to foster a love of reading and to teach skills. Our school library and large classroom library make it possible for every child to have a book of special interest to them in their desk at all times. Book talks and creative activities add to the fun of sharing books with friends.

Fourth Grade is also the year to really fine tune writing skills. We will learn to express ourselves in sentences, paragraphs, essays, and poetry. Our work will be showcased in portfolios with sample work displayed for everyone to enjoy. You will be amazed to see how our writing will progress this year.

Math
"Everyday Mathematics" spirals on number sense learned in previous years. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division operations will be used to solve problems. Fractions, decimals, percents, and geometry are among some of the concepts to be explored. Words, pictures, and numbers will be used to explain mathematical thinking. Games are a pleasurable component to learning new skills and are played often!

Science and Social Studies
Science is hands-on with many group experiments and projects. Heredity and the study of the weather are some of the science topics destined to hold interest. Science kits on magnetism and electricity allow learning to follow scientific principles while enhancing the thrill of scientific discovery.

Social Studies this year concentrates on map studies and understanding longitude and latitude. The history and geography of North America is highlighted by internet webquests and interactive software. Using today’s technology, we can also take virtual field trips to famous monuments and historical sites.

Massachusetts Frameworks
As you can see, Fourth Grade is a great year combining an extensive and exciting curriculum with chances to socialize and explore. Together we will learn new concepts and strengthen our skills according to the Massachusetts Frameworks for Fourth Grade!
