Math Study Skills

Always pay attention in class

Always ask a question the second you have one. The longer you wait to ask it, the longer it takes for you to understand your mistake.

Offer to help solve a problem if a teacher asks.

Do not sit idle during a math lesson. Try your best. It is better to try and get a problem incorrect than not to try at all. This way you can correct and see your mistake.

Take notes when need be.

Always complete your homework.

When correcting homework, always place a check mark by any correct answer. If a problem is incorrect, place an x by it accompanied by the correct solution.

Always show your work, even if it seems trivial! Work is the most important part of understanding math. It is more important to know how you get somewhere than actually being there.

Take your time, rushing through does not mean you know it better.

When studying for a test or quiz, use a study guide and work through problems. When your teacher provides a study guide, take this as though it were the actual test/quiz. Mark the problems in which you struggled so you know what you need to spend the most time studying.
If you do not have a study guide, take home a book or journal. You can grab problems and write them out on a serparte piece of paper. This will become your practice test/quiz.

Find a study group for completing homework and/or studying for tests/quizzes. Bouncing ideas off of your friends will always help. One condition...not TOO much talking about items other than math!

Shut off the TV, phone or any other distractinos while studying or completing homework.

Most importantly, know you CAN do this math. Have confidence in your ability to do well in this subject!

Welcome to the Math is Marvelous Web page. You will find some helpful on-line links and resources to help at home!
