Unit Overview:Inquiry and the Scientific Method
Students in sixth grade are ready to formalize their understanding of what an experiment requires by controlling variables to ensure a fair test. Their work becomes more quantitative, and they learn the importance of carrying out several measurements to minimize sources of error. Because sixth grade students use a greater range of tools and equipment, they must learn safe laboratory practices. At the conclusion of their investigations, students in sixth grade can be expected to prepare reports of their questions, procedures, and conclusions. Unit Objectives: Helpful & Fun Science WebsitesTextbook Publisher's Website This is the publisher's Web site which has interactive virtual experiments, activities, and practice tests to accompany the classroom lessons.

www.uky.edu/Projects/Chemcomics/ You've probably never seen a periodic table of the elements quite like this one. Nearly every element in the table is accompanied by at least one comic book panel, and sometimes many. If you click on a panel, you can view the whole comic book page. In most cases, there's actually some tidbit of scientific information in the comic about that particular element.
