Remington Committees

BOOK FAIR
Organize the book fair which takes place in May during the week of May Mosaic. Volunteers are needed to set up, oversee book sales, and assist in closing out the event.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Sponsored by General Mills, Remington uses this program to earn money by redeeming "Box Tops for Education" labels from General Mills products. Volunteers cut, sort, and count them. Box Tops can be dropped off in a baskt located in the Remington lobby. Visit www.boxtops4education.com for additional ways to save.

CLOTHING/SPIRIT WEAR
Volunteers needed to collect and tally clothing orders and payment (usually twice a year). Order forms will be sent home with students. Volunteers also sort and distribute clothing upon arrival of orders. New ideas for encouraging Remington spirit are always welcome!

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Assist teachers and students with occasional community service projects. Prepare posters and flyers explaining events. Oversee annual February Food Drive to benefit Franklin Food Pantry (in conjunction with district-wide PCC's.) We encourage monthly community service projects.

CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
Work with members of the Remington staff and district-wide PCC's to review and coordinate cultural and enrichment programs for students throughout the year. Volunteers may be needed to assist on the day of a performance. Typical events at the school include assemblies and performances from professional groups.

EIGHTH GRADE CELEBRATION
Plan the celebration held at the end of the school year in honor of the 8th grade class. Committee members assist in the arrangements for food, beverages, decorations, and student and school gifts. Volunteers are needed to set up, chaperone, serve, and clean up. Events include a picnic/field day at King Street Park, 8th grade social/dance, and culminate with an awards breakfast.

FUNDRAISING
Remington typically holds two fundraising events during the school year, one in the fall and one in the spring. This year the fall fundraiser will be our second annual Magazine Drive through QSP/Reader's Digest. This was a very successful event for us last year. A raffle or silent auction may take place during May Mosaic in the spring.

HONOR ROLL/ON A ROLL CELEBRATION
This is an early morning breakfast celebration that occurs shortly after report cards are issued for all students who have accomplished honor roll grades or are making great strides for the term. Parents who wish to be involved will assist by coming in early to set up, supervise and/or help with clean up efforts.

HOSPITALITY/STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEONS
Volunteers are needed to bake, set up, and clean up for special events throughout the year including: a luncheon held in May during Teacher Appreciation week to recognize and acknowledge the dedication of Remington staff; and a back to school staff luncheon the day before school starts.

LIBRARY
The librarian would appreciate volunteers to help periodically in the library.

NEWS IN THE MIDDLE
Volunteers copy and distribute/mail the bi-monthly newsletter from the Principal and the PCC.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS/ON CALL
Duties will occur on an "as needed" basis at the request of the teachers, Mr. Farmer, Celeste Flynn, or a PCC committee. Duties may include office assistance, copying, assisting with an activity in class or an after school club.

OUTDOOR BEAUTIFICATION
Participate in the annual fall and spring clean-ups at Remington Middle School (in conjunction with Jefferson Elementary). Many volunteers are needed and are encouraged to show up for any amount of time they can offer.

SUMMER READING BOOKS
The PCC offers the service of ordering summer reading books for the students. This includes taking orders, collecting payments and ordering the books from Barnes and Noble. Volunteers are needed to sort and distribute books for the students, and to supervise sales during May Mosaic. Sales take place in May.

TEEN READ WEEK
Responsibilities include prize solicitation during the month of September from local merchants (gift certificates to McDonalds, Papa Gino's, Hollywood Video) and helping out during an ice cream party as a celebration for the students who completed their summer reading requirement.
