Collage is a style of artistic expression that is limitless in variety. When a collage becomes three dimensional it is called an assemblage, but the same principles are at work- combining and juxtaposing images and media in a way that evokes a feeling that communicates something about a topic. Eighth grade art students make a series of small collages concentrating on formal principles of design: Balnce, Rhthym and Movement. Once mastered, students create collages about a topic of their choosing incorporating the principles into the composition.
