Facts

1. A lower resting heart rate is better than a high one.

2. Aerobic exercise will lower resting heart rate.

3. Aerobic exercise makes you feel like you have more energy during the day.

4. As you age, your maximum heart rate will decrease.

5. To improve cardiovascular endurance, you must train within your “target heart rate” for at least 20 minutes; 3 to 4 times a week.

6. The word “Aerobic” means “with air”….thus, aerobic exercise improves how well your heart and lungs work together to get oxygen to the muscles.

7. To train at your “Target Heart Rate” or “Training Zone” you must get your heart beating between 70% to 85% of it’s maximum.

8. To find your “Maximum Heart Rate”, subtract your age from the number 220.

9. Beta Endorphins are chemicals secreted in the brain that gives a person a feeling of euphoria. (ie: a “runner’s high”)

10. Anaerobic excercises (without air) only uses the oxygen that is currently in the body at the time of the exercise.
