Current Unit: Evolution & Biodiversity
Important Dates
Friday, 2/15: FHS Course Selection window CLOSES!

Weekly Objectives:
Heredity, Reproduction & Evolution Test
Your evolution test score is going to consist of 4 parts:
  • Toothpick fish activity (similar to Beak activity…hint, hint!)
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Vocabulary matching
  • One open response

B: Review/
practice day

A,C,D: Toothpick fish activity
14
B: Toothpick fish activity

A&D: ORQ, multiple choice, matching
15
B&C: ORQ, multiple choice, matching

Vocabulary:
  • evolution
  • natural selection
  • homologous structure
  • common ancestor
  • species
  • speciation event
*be able to match terms and definitions, but also understand how to interpret and apply these terms in the context of evolutionary scenarios!

Multiple choice and ORQ:
  • major differences between asexual reproduction/mitosis and sexual reproduction/meiosis
  • given an evolution scenarios, be able to identify how/why species evolved/changed
  • describe how natural selection occurs within a species
  • identify homologous structures in images
  • evidence of evolution- types of evidence; apply evidence to make inferences about evolution/relationships
  • interpret branching trees to identify/describe evolutionary relationships among species
As you know, heredity, reproduction, and evolution are all connected.  Be sure that you know the following:
  • understand and apply the terms: dominant, recessive, heterozygous, homozygous, allele
  • how to complete a Punnett square
  • how to fill in a meiosis diagram with allele symbols to show the inheritance through sexual reproduction
  • understand that in sexual reproduction offspring receive half of their genes from each parent/one allele for each trait from each parent
