Information from our School Nurse
My name is Lisa Daly and I am the Nurse at Annie Sullivan Middle School and Helen Keller Elementary School. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have at 508-553-0322 x-3421. I am here, at the school, Monday-Friday 7:30am-2:30pm. If I am unable to answer the phone, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.
The cooperative efforts of parents, administrators, nurses, health care professionals, teachers, support personnel, and students contribute to our successful program and allow us to optimize the health and safety of all students.
With the arrival of the cold and flu season, I am asking for your help in utilizing the following guidelines to help prevent an illness cycle.
A child should stay home AT LEAST 24 hours to rest if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night…
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Fever greater than 100 degrees
- Cold with colored nasal discharge
- Severe/continuous cough
- An unusual rash
- A poor night’s sleep due to illness, cough, etc…
Please contact your health care provider if any of these symptoms persist.
Recently, there have been some cases of strep throat in our school. Please review some of the signs and symptoms of strep throat….
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Stomachache/vomiting
- Swollen and tender neck glands
If your child develops any of these symptoms, please contact your health care provider and tell him/her that other children in school have had strep throat. Once strep has been detected in your child, our best defense against spreading it is to keep your child home for AT LEAST 24 hours after starting antibiotics. Make sure to complete the full course of antibiotics and PLEASE CALL AND LET ME KNOW THAT YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH STREP THROAT.
Please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, to keep their hands out of their mouths and not to share drinks or food with their friends.
Thank you for all your help!
