Mr. Donegan

Chorus

As the new school year begins I feel a sense of pleasure as I share my love of art with your child. My most important goal is to insure that my students leave Annie Sullivan Middle School with a strong feeling of personal success and accomplishment. My hope is that the middle school art experience is one that will cultivate an appreciation for art and the surrounding world. This life long gift is achieved in art by doing hands on activities with an emphasis on technique/ skill, by looking at art, and by making visual observations about styles of art and art history.

Students will focus on the Elements and Principals of Art and be able to participate in discussions using art terms correctly. It is always a challenge to come up with an idea and develop a plan resulting in a well designed work of art. We learn that creativity is a process, not a thing. My daily goal is to develop an environment that will allow students to take charge of their own learning and develop responsible behaviors that will follow them into the future. By providing encouragement, risk taking and self independence, hopefully, there will be no room for for anyone to be afraid to create art.

Creativity, originality, neatness, design and expression are encouraged in all projects. Every student will succeed by putting forth his/her personal best. Effort and daily class performance are heavily weighted for the final grade on the report card. A progress report and phone call home will inform a parent if the student is in danger of receiving a grade of C- or lower. To ensure the best environment the following rules are discussed on the first day of art class. I would appreciate it if you would review them with your child.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  • Ask for another demonstration if you did not get it the first time.Talk quietly in class.
  • Be prepared with a pencil everyday
  • Do not talk when the teacher or another student is talking.
  • Listen and follow directions.
  • Raise your hand to speak and wait to be called on.
  • Avoid distracting others.
  • Keep hands and objects to yourself.
  • Respect yourself and others.
  • Use materials with care and return them to where they belong.
  • Work together as a team to set up and clean up.
  • Check the counters and floor at the end of the period.
